November

As we move into winter the growing season is coming to an end so you might get a chance for your final cut of the year if you get a dry day. But please make sure if you do you keep the mower height high at this time of year!

Look out for Fusarium Fungal disease - Circular patches of yellow-brown grass that can spread and join together. This is usually prevalent in autumn or mild winter weather and often apparent after snow has melted. Active fungi can have a candy-floss appearance.

Often all that is necessary is to make sure your lawn is properly nourished - and the Hampshire Lawncraft winter feed will help with this. However, if you have a severe infestation, please get in touch

Things you can do to help your lawn in November:

  • Number one job is to keep the lawn free from leaves!

Leaves on the grass can mean that light is not getting to the grass and growth is restricted. Even after a few days of leaf coverage, the grass can start to decline, so it is good practice to clear leaves at least every three to four days during the autumn. Leaf blowers are great for this or you can also put your mower on the highest setting and use it to suck up the leaves!

  • Avoid heavy raking - the soil structure is now vulnerable to damage with aggressive techniques.

  • Aeration can continue during November to help reduce compaction.
