September

September is usually a great month to begin an autumn lawn renovation as the soil is still warm, the rain is beginning to fall and there are less seeding weeds. Shady lawns can benefit from some TLC at this time of year and we can start to conduct heavy moss treatments in preparation for a refurbishment programme.

Things you can do to help your lawn:

  • Raking lawns after the summer can be useful to remove dead/dry grass and reduce thatch build up.

  • Regular watering (if no hose-pipe ban or lack of rainfall) to restore the moisture in the soil after a long dry summer.

  • Install a water butt to collect rainwater so you are well prepared for next summer!

  • Keep the grass clear from leaves to enable light to reach the blades of grass.

  • Mow little and often to maintain a good length whilst the grass is still actively growing.

  • Avoid mowing the grass if the ground is saturated, as you can damage the soil structure by walking on it when it is very wet.
